The word design covers a huge field — one that’s constantly evolving and growing more complex. That’s why there are so many different kinds of design. Still, they can all be grouped into three main categories:
Communication design — creating ways to share information, often through visual or interactive means. Think websites, logos, magazines.
Industrial design — designing the objects and tools we use every day, from furniture and home appliances to cars and gadgets.
Environmental design — shaping the physical spaces where we live and work: interiors, architecture, public parks.
Each of these areas branches into many specializations. So if you’re wondering which path to take — or already walking one — this trio is a good place to start.
